Global 1
This year long course is the first half of a two-year long course that explores early civilizations and how they have shaped the world. The curriculum provides students
with the opportunity to explore what is happening in various regions and civilizations at a
given time, and enables students to investigate issues and themes from multiple perspectives
and make global connections and linkages that lead to in-depth understanding. Global I begins with the earliest known civilizations and belief systems in Mesopotamia (4000 BC-AD 500) and concludes with Age of Absolutism in Europe and the First Global Age (1450-1770). Students will analyze both primary and secondary sources as they discover and examine the major themes that run throughout this course, including: Geography, Cultural Diffusion, Belief Systems, the Movement of People and Goods (Migration & Trade), Multi-Regional Empires, Conflict, Turning Points. This two-year course culminates with the NYS Regents Exam in Global History & Geography.
